Reflect on our project! Open call for a critical reflection on the A-Place project and its outcomes

 

Deadline extended until May 2.

 

 

Purpose

The purpose of this call is to reflect on the following aspects of the A-Place project processes and outcomes:

• the role of placemaking to promote participatory design, spatial justice and the appropriation of public space

• the cross-cutting objectives of both formal and informal educational and creative activities in public space

• the engagement of artists and creators • the representation of a sense of place through art forms: music, photography, video, art performance, sculpturing etc.

We are looking for two authors to contribute with an essay (from 6,000 to 10,000 words, plus references) to be included in the A-Place book which will summarize the work done in the project and will frame the results in the wider context of creative placemaking. Each selected author will receive a grant of 1,000 euros to complete their essay. The grant will be awarded after the final version of the essay is delivered and reviewed by the editors.

 

Selection

The selection process will be carried out in the following stages:

1. Submission of extended abstract and authors’ CV

Until 2 May 2023

Proposals must be submitted in the form of a long abstract along with a contributor’s CV. The proposed essay should include a review of the A-Place project outcomes, which can be found in the resources provided below. The long abstract should provide a brief summary of the proposed essay, selected aspects, approach, and structure. The documents need to be submitted to info@a-place.eu

 

2. Selection of two contributors by the A-Place jury

Announcement 25 April 2023

A jury formed by members of the A-Place project will assess the abstracts received and select two of them.

 

3. Writing of the selected essays

To be delivered on 31 August 2023

The submission should be written in correct English, a final proof-reading will be undertaken by the book’s editors. The visual materials can be obtained from the resources listed below. 

 

4. Feedback from the book’s editors

To be received before 30 September 2023

The editors might suggest some changes to the authors, and provide quality images for the selected visual materials.

 

5. Publication of the chapter in the book

Available online on 30 November 2023

There is a possibility of re-publishing the chapter in the journals Annales, Series Historia et Sociologia; (SCOPUS, A&HCI indexed) or AR Journal (SCOPUS indexed).
