A-pla(y)ce workshop is launched!

Placemaking Event

16 March 2021

Ljubljana (Slovenia)

12 May 2021

The foreseen 2-month student workshop has been launched at the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana.

Curiosity and interest for the complex “placemaking by playmaking” challenge has attracted 21 eager students of different levels from the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Fine Arts programmes, including Erasmus exchange students, to attend the weekly workshop sessions for two months, from mid-March to mid-May.

Artistic and academic mentors from both partner organizations lead students through the process of exploring the site (Bežigrajski dvor neighbourhood alleys) and its socio-cultural context, discovering the ties to its past and present-day stories, and revealing its potentials for future use, especially for children and families. Although alleys reflect the transitional character, they also embody the most vibrant part of the neighbourhood. This is where people pass, meet, and chat, where children play. From this aspect, they offer great potential for placemaking practices by also engaging families (parents and grandparents) in activities related to children play.

After a series of lectures, debates, site visits, mappings and interviews taken, students are invited to propose temporal or semi-temporal interventions and/or on-site events to engage wider audiences and local community. This is the first step towards inhabiting the neighbourhood alleys, making them more attractive and inclusive by means of children play and playmaking.
